Hams Enjoy the Day Making Contacts From On High
Six members of the Pecos Valley Amateur Radio Club set out for a fun day playing radio in the foothills despite a wet forecast. Gerald, (W0COX), Rich, (W5IAY), Kelly, (KF5ZNJ), Rix, (W5RDL), Tom, (W5TDL) and Tommy, (N5TDL), met at the Queen turnoff around 8:00 AM on Saturday, May the 22nd. The crew then headed up to Queen and then on up to Brokeoff Ridge where they deployed two stations. In spite of less then favorable conditions, the bunch was successful at making numerous contacts on 17, 20 and 40 meters. Gerald noted that, "when your antenna thinks it's on a 1000' tower, it makes all the difference."

Despite the disappointment of finding the restaurant at Queen closed, the group had a great time of fellowship and playing radio and were home around 3:00 PM.
Stopped at Queen only to find the restaurant closed.
